The Library

The Library moved to a new location in the centre of the main school building in February 2006. This has proved to be a successful and popular situation with pupils and staff and the Library is now always busy, both during the day and in the evenings. The stock consists of nearly 20,000 constantly updated books, 900 Videos, 800 DVDs, music CDs, talking books and CD-Roms. New stock is constantly being added and all suggestions for new resources are acted upon.

Newspapers and magazines are available to read in the Library. Students can connect to the internet from their own laptops.

A graduate, professionally trained Librarian and a part-time assistant staff the library. Sixth Form Library Prefects assist at break and lunchtime.

There are always themed displays to support the curriculum and displays of new resources on show in the Library.

The Library also looks after a collection of School Archives consisting of school magazines, photographs, uniforms and artefacts. The collection is in the process of being catalogued and/or scanned onto the library management system which is available on the school intranet.

The role of Kent College Library, in partnership with the teaching staff, is to provide an active and stimulating information resource to enhance learning.

Key objectives are:

• To support and enhance the curriculum
• To provide an information based centre
• To encourage library use in all learning activites
• To support and develop information handling skills
• To make available a wide range of centrally held and centrally recorded information resources
