International Baccalaureate

Kent College now offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme alongside our existing Sixth Form curriculum. The IB Diploma is a prestigious pre-university qualification and is recognised by universities and governments throughout the world.

The IB offers students a broad curriculum with an international perspective. The course is an excellent preparation for university life and employment especially given the increasingly interconnected global economy. The Diploma will suit those students who are hardworking, well organised and have a genuine curiosity for the subjects they wish to study. For some students A Levels may still remain the best option if they want to specialise in a particular field such as sciences, arts or languages.

The IB offers a continuum of high quality education that encourages international awareness and understanding alongside a positive attitude to independent learning.

The Diploma consists of six subject groups:
Group 1 English (or first language)
Group 2 Second language
Group 3 Humanities
Group 4 Science
Group 5 Maths
Group 6 The Arts
Three subjects are studied at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. There will be a number of different subject options within each of the subject groups and there is the possibility of studying more than one subject from groups 1-5.

In addition to the subjects studied there is also a compulsory core that comprises three elements:
An Extended Essay (an independent research paper on a topic of their choice) Theory of Knowledge (a course in critical thinking) CAS (a programme of Creativity, Action and Service) At Kent College, the extra-curricular programme is extensive and we are pleased with this formal recognition of achievement.

We are one of the country’s leading day and boarding co-educational schools, and we have been teaching the IB since September 2010.
