Politics
Taught to AS Level from September 2012.
Politics is taught at AS level, students are given an introduction to the subject before embarking on the study of the two modules that make up the first year of the course. They are:
People and Politics
Governing the UK
Further details can be found in the Curriculum Booklet.
Politics has a high profile throughout the school. Those studying the subject are encouraged to get involved in debating and to participate in mock elections.
There are regular visits to the Houses of Parliament to see MPs and Members of the Lords at work. In recent years, these have been hosted by Baroness Richardson of Calow.
We also invite prominent politicians and journalists to speak at the school. BBC Newsnight’s Michael Crick recently gave a seminar and lecture here.
There are three Old Canterburians in the House of Commons:
John Redwood: Conservative, MP for Wokingham
Natascha Engel: Labour, MP for Derbyshire North East
Mike Weatherley: Conservative, MP for Hove and Portslade
