Kent College Music Department
Music is at the heart of Kent College and our splendid music department offers a broad range of opportunity to pupils of all ages and abilities. Working within a positive and vibrant environment, our aim is for music to be both fun and productive, ensuring that pupils perform and progress to the best of their abilities. Three full time members of staff, as well as a dedicated team of peripatetic musicians are fully committed to both the enjoyment of music and promoting the highest standards.

We have outstanding facilities, many pupils learn a musical instrument and numerous musical events are organised. Our large Senior Choir has recently joined forces with the newly formed Choral Society for a magnificent performance of Mozart’s Requiem and the Kent College Choristers, have enjoyed successes in national competitions, notably as winners of BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year. As well as our many evening concerts, the department also promotes a series of informal Teatime and Lunchtime Concerts and the annual Band Night is always a highlight for our Rock and Pop groups. Music is taught to all pupils as part of the curriculum in the Lower School and is a popular choice at GCSE and A-level.
Our highest achieving musicians are offered further platforms, including the opportunity to perform concertos with orchestra and some pupils attend junior music colleges at the weekend. Several musicians from Kent College have also furthered their studies in music at Music College or University.
A number of generous Music Scholarships are offered each year and details of how to apply can be obtained from the Registrar (registrar@kentcollege.co.uk). The Director of Music, Julian Ross (jross@kentcollege.co.uk) is always available for an informal chat to discuss how Kent College can shape your child’s future in music.
