The main building at Vernon Holme was once the home of the renowned Victorian artist Thomas Sidney Cooper R.A. and a Blue Plaque commemorating his association with the site is on display for all visitors to see. Perhaps the shade of Sidney Cooper is still watching over the home he built because creativity in the visual arts is highly prized at Kent College.

We have full time art teachers who allow our children to express themselves while still starting to teach the rudiments of drawing and painting. On visiting the school you will find examples of our art work proudly on display in classrooms and the public areas. We even have our own kiln which offers opportunities for three-dimensional work for children of all ages. Of course we love putting our work on display at special events and Open Days and we have established the practice of opening up such events to local artists who can display – and sell –their work.

The quality of our art was recently recognised when we were placed in the Top 5 primary schools in the whole of the UK in the Barbie Prize competition. One of our young artists even appeared on national television to talk about the work she had done. Our talented artists also have the chance to apply for Art Scholarships at our Senior School, where their skills can be further developed.
