The Nursery
Our Nursery provides a caring yet stimulating start to a child’s journey through school. Children can join at any point after their third birthday. Some parents choose to go straight to a full-time basis while others choose to start with just one or two mornings a week.
An Early Years specialist teacher oversees the three sections of nursery, supported by a well-qualified team of Nursery practitioners. Our outstanding facilities enable us to offer an excellent and appropriate introduction to school life in an idyllic environment. Planned teaching through play and exploration is based on ‘stepping stones’ mapped out in Early Learning Goals. Our children move forward in personal, social and emotional development while extending their skills in communication, language and literacy. They are introduced to mathematics and helped to grow in knowledge and understanding of the world. At the same time we foster their physical and creative development.
The foundation stage leads to the National Curriculum on which the School bases its learning strategies and teaching. However our independent status allows us the flexibility to broaden out our children’s opportunities. This structure provides a solid base for their introduction to the greater challenges of the Infant Department.
In November 2004 our Nursery and Reception Departments were inspected by OFSTED. In all six categories of Educational and Personal Development reported on the school was judged 'very good' - the highest possible rating. Here are some of the Inspector's comments:
* 'Children are making very good progress towards the early learning goals.'
* 'The quality of teaching is very good.'
* 'Very good use is made of the many available resources.'
* 'Staff have positive relationships with children.'
* 'Behaviour is very good.'
* 'Partnership with parents and carers is very good.'
