Music is a vital part of life at Kent College Infant & Junior School. We are lucky to enjoy the services of two inspiring full-time music teachers and also benefit from regular visits from music professionals based at the Senior School. It is a regular occurrence for children and parents to be greeted as they arrive at the school in the morning by a group of our young musicians playing their latest works for the pleasure of the whole school community.
We have a strong choral tradition and we sing at every age in the school. We have our own chapel choir and our older pupils – some 20 of them currently – join together with the younger students at our Senior School to form the Kent College Junior Choir. They perform at regular concerts, held in both schools, and tackle a wide variety of compositions. They have recently sung in Canterbury Cathedral as part of a Barnardo’s charity concert and, for the first time, in a competitive festival at Tenterden. The Choir enjoyed a highly successful European tour in May, giving concerts in Strasbourg and the Black Forest.
Nor are our instrumentalists neglected. Children as young as five can start the violin in our Suzuki Violin Play-Togethers. Tuition is available in a wide range of instruments and our school orchestra, as well as smaller groups of wind and strings players, also perform regularly. They too enjoy collaboration with the Senior School in major concerts.
Cliché it may be, but Kent College Infant & Junior School is alive with the sound of music!
