The Library moved to a new location in the centre of the main school building in February 2006. This has proved to be a successful and popular situation with pupils and staff and the Library is now always busy, both during the day and in the evenings. The stock consists of nearly 20,000 constantly updated books, 900 Videos, 800 DVDs, music CDs, talking books and CD-Roms. New stock is constantly being added and all suggestions for new resources are acted upon.
Newspapers and magazines are available to read in the Library. There are eight computers connected to the school intranet for pupils’ use.
A graduate, professionally trained Librarian and a part-time assistant with public library experience staff the library. A Library Committee, made up of pupils from all year groups, is instrumental in recommending new projects and Sixth Form Library Prefects assist at break and lunchtime.
There are always themed displays to support the curriculum and displays of new resources on show in the Library.
The Library also looks after a collection of School Archives consisting of school magazines, photographs, uniforms and artefacts. The collection is in the process of being catalogued and/or scanned onto the library management system which is available on the school intranet.
