International Study Centre

Head of International
Study Centre
Mrs Katie Plumb

The International Study Centre at Kent College offers an English language programme that gives students the English they need to join the mainstream British academic curriculum.

Ethos and Environment

The ISC provides an environment in which all students gain confidence to attain their full potential. It is a welcoming place, where we celebrate the achievements of all our pupils.

Students are fully integrated with other mainstream students in the boarding houses.

Numbers

Normally there are between 6 and 10 students in each group. Everyone is treated with great care, and we try to ensure that only a small number of students from any one country are taught together.

Language Level

Our students range from the complete beginner to those at intermediate level. Some students have considerable knowledge of English, but suffer from an imbalance of skills.

Stage 1

We concentrate on:

  • Reading

  • Listening

  • Writing

  • Speaking

We seek to ensure that our pupils take part in extra-curricular activities

Teaching is conducted within a personalised timetable suited to the student’s ability and speed of learning.

Stage 2

Once the required standard has been achieved, the next stage is access to the main school curriculum. At the ISC students will have been taught the skills they need to cope with the mainstream curriculum. As their language skills continue to develop many are able to join British public examination courses.

You Sun, Korea:
“ I was a boarder at school in Korea and this boarding house has more facilities. Before I came to this school I was worried but I found it easy to make friends in my boarding house.”

Ken, Taiwan:
“I felt scared before I came to this school but now it is alright. There are others from different countries, so we get lots of different opinions. I think my English has greatly improved, especially my speaking and handwriting.”

Victor, Bulgaria:
“I have good friends, lessons and teachers. I have fun in the boarding house, good roommates and a good room.”
