ISI Inspection Report, Febuary 2009
Dear Parents and Guardians
As you may remember Kent College was subject to an Independent School Inspection, in the first week of February 2009.
Whilst we might have preferred one team and one report which covered the whole College we ended up with four teams looking at different aspects of the College in great detail. Three reports have now been published; one for the Senior School, one for the Infant and Junior School (with the Early Years Inspection report as section 7) and one for the International Study Centre, which is a department of the Senior School.
In each of these reports judgments are made for different inspection standards:
- The quality of education
- The quality of care and relationships
- The effectiveness of governance and management
These three sections form the central part of the report and are prefaced by a factual introduction and followed by conclusions and next steps and a summary of evidence.
Inspectors make judgments about the standards at four different levels:
1 Excellent; Outstanding; High Order
2 Good; Very Good
3 Satisfactory, Sound
4 Poor; Unsatisfactory
For each of the reports which refer to Kent College every judgment is realised at the top level. This represents an exceptional outcome for every part of the College and for the College as a whole.
In addition the Inspection must consider whether an Independent School appropriately fulfils the regulations laid down by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. You will note from the Inspection narrative that Kent College fulfils all regulations in full.
The Senior School report 'Next Steps' recognise that the school has no serious weaknesses but asks us to consider how to bring all marking, and therefore standards of handwriting, spelling and presentation up to the quality of the best. I am pleased to say that we have already addressed this issue on our training day at the beginning of the summer term and this will be followed up by regular monitoring from Heads of Departments and the Senior Management Team. We continue to strive to improve the work of Kent College and will not become complacent just because of these excellent reports.
I would like to thank my Colleagues for their hard work; the Students for the way they in which they impressed the Inspectors and showed great pride in their school; and to Parents who responded to the parent questionnaire and who continue to support the College in so many ways.
