THE FRIENDS OF VERNON HOLME

(Registered as a Charity No. 307844)

With the end of term now upon us, we would like to say a big thank you for your continued support.  The Wine and Wisdom evening in January was a great success and I am sure you will agree that the Arts Evening ‘on the beach’ was a fantastic event.  Mrs Swain worked tirelessly to pull this together and the children performed magnificently.  We were particularly impressed by Mr Carter and Mrs Henderson who seemed to take to bingo calling like ducks to water!

We have some great events planned for your return and please keep your diaries free for the following events

Sounds in the Grounds on         Saturday 17th June
Summer Fete on                          Saturday 1st July

Nicole Lee has kindly agreed to co-ordinate the Fete this year and would appreciate as much help as possible in setting up and manning stalls.  If you are able to help, we promise it is lots of fun and Nicole would love to hear from you.  Please either speak to her direct (Telephone 01227 - 765142) or alternatively leave your details with the office after Easter.  There are some brilliant new stalls planned but we can only run these if we have enough parent power.  Please help in whatever way that you can.

No doubt you will all be doing your spring-cleaning!! So when sorting out those cupboards, please see if there are any items that you are able to donate as prizes for the Raffle. Tombola etc……  .  All donations can be brought in to school from Easter onwards.

New Play Equipment

It was really satisfying to see so many children making use of the new play equipment during the netball tournament at school last week.  This was financed by YOU through Friends events and we would like to thank everyone for this.  The Friends would like purchase more equipment and we look forward to your continued support of our events in order to make this possible.   We would particularly like to see some new equipment in the grounds beyond the dining room and we hope this can be achieved before the end of the summer.

To start the ball rolling, we are planning a sponsored swim in the school swimming pool on Friday 9th June and we hope that as many children as possible will wish to take part in this.  Further details will be given after Easter so please watch out for these.  A financial target board will appear at school after Easter and we are sure the children will look forward to participating and seeing this completed.  The Friends already has some surplus funds that will go towards funding the play equipment and we hope that the target board will help spur the children on to swimming and having as much fun as possible

School Swimming Pool

Summer will be with us before we know it and with this in mind we are trying to arrange for children (and parents) to have greater access to the pool after school and during the holidays.  In order to do this there must be a qualified lifeguard on duty at all times and this is where we need your help.

Are there any qualified lifeguards already out there who would be willing to help man the pool?

Alternatively would you like to qualify as a lifeguard?  We are hoping to fund the cost of this for any willing volunteers.  If you can swim 20 metres front crawl at a reasonable pace then we would love to hear from you.  (Diving is not a necessity as a duck dive is permitted once in the water).

The lifeguards would operate on a mutually acceptable rota system, obviously with flexibility to fit in with family life.

If you are remotely interested and would like to find out more, can you please phone me as soon as possible (Janice Meakin on 01227 793841 or 07810 565823)

The pool is a fantastic amenity at school and it would be wonderful to use it during the long summer months.

The next Friends meeting I at 8 p.m. in the Staff Room on Wednesday 26 April.  All Welcome -  Please come and join us

On behalf of The Friends Janice and Natalie would like to wish you a very Happy Easter and we look forward to seeing you all together with some warmer weather after the holiday.
