Kent College Nursery, Infant & Junior School has its own small but comfortable Boarding House within the main school building and welcomes boarders from the age of seven upwards.
Few people would deny that for a child below the age of 11 – and indeed for their parents – boarding can be quite a daunting prospect. That’s why choosing Kent College as a child’s first boarding school makes so much sense. There are just so many advantages, in the Boarding House and in the school itself.
The caring atmosphere derives from the strong pastoral tradition of Kent College, a Methodist foundation that dates back well over 100 years. The Boarding House has space for no more than 14 children and this gives it a unique family feeling; a true home from home.
Every child receives individual care and attention from the houseparents who are qualified carers and have their family home inside the Boarding House. Their ‘Open Door’ policy means that they are always on hand to resolve any problems in a loving and supportive way.
No child is over 11, so the school’s philosophy and policies are geared to this younger age group rather than as is the case in a traditional prep school which takes pupils up to 13. This enhances the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
The delightful themed bedrooms have been recently refurbished to an exceptional standard and the children also enjoy a fun-filled common room.
Boarding arrangements are highly flexible, to meet individual family requirements. The School welcomes full and weekly boarders, and will always try to accommodate requests for short term or occasional boarding as the need arises. Boarding Bursaries are available: please contact the School Bursar for further information.
All boarders have full internet, e-mail and telephone access.
Most pupils go on to Kent College Senior School, into an environment they already understand and enjoy.
All in all, parents can send their children into boarding at Kent College, with total confidence about their happiness and welfare The outstanding care and provision for our boarding community was highlighted and recognised in the ISI Inspection report 2009.
