Welcome to Kent College, Canterbury Thursday 17th May 2012
The school is situated in delightful grounds on the edge of the historic City of Canterbury. Our Senior School, to which most of our pupils transfer at 11, is just over a mile away. The main school building was once the home of the renowned Victorian artist Thomas Sidney Cooper R.A. and he lived here for 50 years, spending much time and money in developing the glorious gardens in which our children can play.
The Channel Tunnel and ports are only half an hour’s drive away, as is access to Eurostar. Central London can be reached within 45 minutes.
We have a small but very comfortable Boarding House within the main building, and welcome full, weekly or occasional boarders from the age of seven upwards.
Children can join our Nursery during the term of their third birthday, and can come full time from that age, though many parents choose to start with just a couple of mornings a week. They then progress through to the Infant and finally Junior departments, full details of which are shown on this site. Other children join us at any age between four and ten.
We have an excellent academic record, with consistently strong results in the Kent Test, and many of our pupils win scholarships, for academic, artistic, musical or sporting excellence, to our Senior School. We are also able to offer specialist teaching to children with dyslexia.
Our cultural and sporting traditions are strong and we offer a huge range of clubs and activities, at lunchtime, after school and, for those who want it, on Saturday mornings. These are complemented by a variety of visits and excursions, both locally and abroad.
Above all we are a caring and welcoming school with an outstanding pastoral reputation which derives from our Christian heritage. Our children are challenged and stretched, but always encouraged and supported, as identified in our 2009 ISI inspection report.
Mr Andy Carter, our Headmaster will be delighted to meet with you to explain our educational philosophy and show you around the school to witness the children and staff working together towards achieving our aims. We’re sure you’ll be convinced that Kent College Infant & Junior School is the ideal starting point for every child’s educational journey.
